You can even put the pdf on your phone and just bring it up when asked. That's super easy to transport.

It's partly about Paizo's bottom line, but also about making sure the rules for everything are available at the table without requiring the GM to bring 20+ hardcover books plus dozens of paperback supplements. It's the player's responsibility to make sure everything needed to run a character is on hand.

With Hero Lab, it would be on hand. But apparently that's not good enough for PFS. Which leads me to believe it's not partly about Paizo's bottom line - it's entirely about it.

In any case, the main reason I chose to stop playing PFS (and Pathfinder in general) is far more serious; this is just the cherry on top.
