The Downtown Indianapolis mall has announced a plans to make modern upgrades amounting to "the most extensive (renovation) in its nearly 25-year history." The project includes remodeled bathrooms, flooring, lighting and elevators, improved entrances and an overhaul of the third-floor food court that will include "brand-new lounge areas, banquette seating and community tables."The project will begin this spring with a completion date between July 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020, according to the mall's owner.

The mall is losing California Pizza Kitchen as well as Johnny Rockets, but will be adding a cigar lounge called Burn by Rocky Patel and Tony's Steak and Seafood. Also Carson's department store in Circle Centre mall is closing soon. And Mall owners are discussing turning the large anchor store into additional food court space, or non-traditional retail space.

Thompson and Simon spokesman Les Morris said the redevelopment of the food court space is expected to attract new restaurants to the interior of the mall in addition to providing a more pleasant public space for people to meet and relax.

Keep in mind, this construction is to begin soon. And will continue for the next 2 years of Gencon. We could see the food court become even more hectic or restricted during construction. So be patient and plan accordingly.
