I'm a game designer and GM and I went to several panels to learn more about my craft. Each was a disappointment, especially the one that didn't even show up. I was thinking that I could do this, in fact I have done this at other conventions. But I'm not sure what it takes to become a speaker at Gencon, what they're looking for, and what the process is for that.
Thanks.

Sorry about that session, we tried to keep it going and entertaining but I know it as a disappointment to some.
I've been thinking about trade day but I don't know what people want to hear about? A game design session? Thoughts?
What session?
It always sounds to me that using games in education is a popular topic, though that could be bias on my part as the only time I almost attended Trade Day it would have been as an educator so I likely only paid attention to that stuff in general

At past Gencons, I've gone to seminars from authors and some RPG companies, but I've never noticed any from boardgame designers. I would definitely go to a seminar that discussed some basic boardgame design strategies - things to avoid and such - how do you remove the "first move" advantage or how you avoid the "rich get richer" scenario - you know, where some players are essentially eliminated from winning by the third round of play because one player has had better rolls and collected an intimidating amount of "loot".
Trade Day is geared towards 2 audiences: educators and retailers. If you are hosting a Trade Day seminar, your session should be focused on one or the other. Otherwise, you can host it during the normal con and take whatever bent you want. I'm sure people would be very interested in a seminar no game design.
Thanks for the heads up @puppycatproductions.
