On a routine mapping and exploration mission in a sector that had only had a long-range scan performed 40 years previously, a tetryon burst from a planet near your exploration route catches your attention. Since tetryon radiation has only been found in subspace, further investigation is warranted. But when the source is found, the crew will need to decide which of their directives is more important!
