It takes a village to make a convention the size of Gen Con possible! Join the ranks of the best and become a member of the Gen Con Event Team.
You provide time, talent, and expertise in exchange for varying levels of compensation and an opportunity to meet people who share similar interests. Who knows, maybe you'll even discover a new appreciation for the show!
Event Team roles are paid positions with benefits based on the amount of time you want to dedicate during the convention. It is open to those at least 18 years of age.
There are two levels available for new members of our Mentorship program. If you've never attended Gen Con or don't know if you'd enjoy running a show instead of attending, apply to be an Apprentice! This is a good way to see what the Mentorship Program is all about without dedicating your entire Con to it.
If you're a long-time attendee or have experience running conventions, and know that you'd rather be working a convention than attending it, then the Deputy level might be for you!
Applications are closed for the 2023 Event Team, but look back here in early 2024 for information about next year's team!
The first step on your Gen Con Event Team journey is working as an Apprentice! As an Apprentice, you'll cycle through various aspects of the show to observe and learn the ins and outs of different functions and find what matches your experience and interest.

The next step on your journey is becoming a Deputy. Want to learn how to run an Event HQ? Does fixing malfunctioning computers seem exciting? At this level, you’ll choose an area to specialize in and learn from the Captains there how things work! Deputies are full members of the Gen Con Event Team and must have excellent customer service skills and a willingness to jump in, ask questions, and learn!

The highest level in the Event Team is becoming a Captain. At this level, you have deep knowledge of your area of the show and can run it independently with minimal support from Gen Con Staff.
Captains are on-site leaders and must be knowledgeable in their specific areas as well as Gen Con's Show Policies and Event Team Policies. Many Captains come in before the show opens up to help with set-up, sometimes starting as early as Sunday afternoon.
If you’re not interested in the long-term commitment of the Event Team, but would still like to help around the show, please consider being part of the Support Team! As part of this team, you might hand out coupon books, check badges, help with line control, stock program book bins, and so much more!
These positions are recruited and coordinated through our staffing agency, BCforward ([email protected]), and you'll need to commit to a minimum number of hours in shifts of four-hour increments as scheduled.
