Long Description:
This workshop introduces board game design by guiding participants through a complete redesign of the classic game Checkers. The session begins with a hands-on look at modern board games such as Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and 7 Wonders.
Each group will then experiment with adapting modern mechanics—such as resource management, action cards, or hidden objectives—into the structure of Checkers.
From there, each participant develops their own version of the game by adjusting rules, goals, and player interactions. Designs are quickly prototyped, playtested, and refined based on real gameplay feedback.
The workshop concludes with groups sharing their redesigned games and reflecting on how modern mechanics transformed a familiar experience. Participants leave with a playable prototype and practical insight into how modern board games are designed.
