"On this overcast afternoon, the meandering, mundane life in the village of Ravenhome seems as if it would go on in much the same way forever. It has been this way for as long as anyone can remember: the farmhands toiling in the orchards, busy householders cooking dinner and geezers rocking in their chairs, while the alderman paces knowingly around the Folkhearth and the children play in the tall barley.
But things are not as they seem. On this overcast afternoon, out in the fields, a chill wind blows. Something moves in the barley, ancient and lumbering. Its heavy trudging as momentous as the footsteps of fate itself, its very appearance doomed to inexorably change the course of life in the Ravensdale, and of a handful of hearts in particular.
