Gen Con Announces Indy Reads and Game Pathways as Official Charity Partners for 2023 Convention

INDIANAPOLIS (March 3, 2023) Gen Con, the largest and longest-running tabletop gaming convention in North America, has selected Indy Reads and Game Pathways as its official charity partners for 2023. Since moving to Indianapolis in 2003, the annual convention has raised more than $400,000 for its charity partners.

“The work that Indy Reads and Game Pathways are doing is incredibly important,” said Megan Culver, Gen Con’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing & Events. “We are honored to partner with them for 2023, and to help them do the kind of work that is vital to the community.”

As part of this agreement, both organizations will receive proceeds from Gen Con’s 2023 fundraising efforts, including longstanding charity events such as the popular “Cardhalla,” a mass-destruction of giant playing card structures. Both groups will also receive promotional marketing and table space at the convention to connect with attendees and share information about their work.

“Game Pathways is thrilled to be partnering with Gen Con in 2023,” said Christopher O’Neal, Founding Board Member for Game Pathways. “Through programs like their BIPOC Lounge and their Participation Grants, Gen Con is leading by example in creating a safe place for everyone at the gaming table. Our organization’s mission is to address issues of representation and diversity in the tabletop gaming industry, and we’re excited to see industry leaders stepping up to take these issues seriously."

“Indy Reads is deeply grateful to be named one of the official charity partners for the 2023 convention and to partner with Gen Con as we strengthen our community through English literacy," said Ruba Marshood, Indy Reads' Chief Executive Officer. “Reading, like gaming, bridges divides and builds community. When we sit down with our families to read, to play, to engage with each other in a shared language, we can build amazing things. By partnering with Gen Con this year, we will be able to continue serving adult learners who have not been able to sit at our communal tables so that they may begin to take their seats."

Gen Con Indy 2023 will run August 3-6 in the Indiana Convention Center and Lucas Oil Stadium, celebrating 20 years of events in Indianapolis since the convention moved to the city in 2003. The convention will continue to operate in a hybrid format, featuring virtual Gen Con Online event programming and livestreaming. 4-Day and single-day badges are available for purchase at gencon.com.
