Saw Margaret Weis on the list but no Tracy Hickman unless it's not under his name. I don't believe he's been at Gencon for the last couple.

First timer here, so excuse me if this is obvious to anyone that regularly attends.
My understanding is that Wizards of the Coast has taken a pass on Gen Con for the past number of years. Based on the initial list, it looks like that will be holding true again this year, but are there 3rd party vendors that bring in Magic and WotC D&D products?

I believe that Baldman Games runs the majority of organized D&D play.
Yeah, they did that at Gen Con 2021 now that I think about it.

Tracy Hickman sort of made a big deal, if I recall correctly, of playing up his Gen-Con 50 appearance as a likely final time there. Not for any specific reason I think beyond just it not aligning with whatever he is doing with his life these days, I do not think?

Baldman rents out the big ballroom in the JW for events for at least the last 5+ years. There are some others but nobody at that scale.

I know someone who is working Tracy Hickman's Killer Breakfast on Saturday. So he'll be there in that capacity at least.

D&D is weird. There are definitely booths that carry some of the books - typically game stores that are exhibiting - but it's really hit or miss.

In the past, he has shared a table with Howard Taylor and Jim Zub. If he attends this year, it would make sense for him to share with Howard again, since they are collaborating on the new XDM guide.

Mike,
Seeing that there are now 530 vendors in the vendor hall, I already assumed that you're at capacity in the vendor hall and that's fantastic. Also, I understand that you only have so much space for events. However going back to 2019, we had a heck of a time trying to sign up for events. I feel if you have people and vendors willing to run events, there were plenty of open tables over in Lucas Oil stadium that you could use to set people up at who are willing to run additional events. Even though the vendor hall is full, I hope you're not turning away people who are willing to run events. I would even encourage vendors who have a booth in the hall to setup events if possible over in Lucas Oil. I feel like this is an untapped market for Gencon. Now this is all assuming you have access to Lucas Oil again.

WotC has been MIA for years. D&D however has always had a strong showing. Baldman games runs a few hundred events plus the D&D experience track. While there is no single vendor, there are always vendors selling whatever the most current items are.

Are they completely gone from Gencon or just the vendor hall? Haven't seen the event list. Was strictly thinking would it make sense to have a CMON booth when Asmodee is selling your games if you aren't doing anything special or extra beyond just selling games.

We are not turning away people who want to run events as long as they are submitted in time and are appropriate.
As always, events are dependent on who wants to run them and how many volume wise.

I was hoping to see Board Game Geek return- the always have lots of great promos
Since Mike said they’re turning potential vendors away, I guess it’s a definite “no” for BGG
Not a complaint - just a statement of mild disappointment. I know it’s not GenCon’s fault if BGG doesn’t come

Mike,
I do overall feel Gencon does a fantastic job and I know it's too late to change anything this year. My only and minor complaint is that there doesn't seem to be enough events. Have you ever thought about creating incentives so more vendors run events? Heck I'd honestly pay more money if I needed to.

Looks like CMON and iello are on the list now, very cool!

The event catalog hasn't been released yet. It comes out May 1st. And there will more events added until very close to the start of the con.
Last year was pretty thin, but prior to 2020 there would be 15,000-18,000 events each con.

As is always the case there will be a lot more events added as time goes on.
This is the usual routine as some EO's don't get there events submitted in a timely enough manner to review/correct/activate them in time for Reg opening.
The initial offering is not the final number of events by a long shot.
