Yep, I JUST booked a room, 10 miles out, without a car, exciting.
No wait list means that at random come on back and maybe you'll get lucky, or maybe not.

When the Indy Housing and Convention was handling the rooms, a wait list did not seem to be an onerous task for them to handle. Getting not only any room downtown, but the specific hotel and type of room that I wanted had never been a problem, much less, "impossible".

to be fair, that was several years, and tens of thousands of attendees, ago.

marimaccadmin, I'm sorry, I DO understand that you are trying to help answer people's questions - venting frustrations upon you is not fair to you.

I sincerely apologize.

I get that it's a frustrating experience, and it's fine to vent; I truly wish everyone could have the room they wanted, it's just not possible.

question on parking rates listed on the hotel info page.
what do they represent?  for example it lists parking as " parking (overnight" and gives 2 prices. such as $25/$29.  Does that represent 1 day of parking (25) and parking overnight (29)? or is it 1 day of parking (25) and long term (more thatn 1 day) parking for hotel guests (29).  Just trying to figure my costs. Thanks.

I know when i stayed last year, the 2 separate prices iirc (for mine) were for "overnight parking, self" and "overnight parking Vallet"..

I think that means daytime parking and 24 hour (overnight) parking rates per day. If it helps at all, I've always set aside $35/day for parking just in case! Valet parks for more money but in underground areas and other times I've left the car in the parking garages for cheaper rates but out in the open. It's been more convenient in the years to have valet park because of all the extra luggage and friends.

Typically the two rates are self parking and valet parking rates. Valet parking usually has in / out privlidges as well.

The FAQ on the housing page is somewhat unclear on the process of modifying an existing reservation.

In order to modify an existing reservation,"... log into your Gen Con account, visit your My Housing page, and click the View Reservation link for the reservation you'd like to change. "

What happens at that point?  Does the existing reservation stay until the new one is completed? Is the only way to view what is available to attempt to modify an existing reservation?

You can browse through new reservation options without it changing your current reservation.

This isn't necessarily a housing question, but more about the forum on housing trades.  If someone posts a "Looking For" thread, can they bump their own thread, and if so, how often?  Otherwise, their post gets buried very quickly.

There's a whole sub forums for that.  I guess bump it every few days or so.

EDIT- Please put all room requests in the rooms wanted sub forum, thank you.

In 2014, i actually 'shopped' around and found a carpark i staied in till late sunday for 13 or so a day, but it did give me an almost 8 block walk to the hotel, and then 3 block walk to the convention.  I bit my tongue about the walk to save the 50 bucks..

Admins - When I go to my housing portal, I see the following...

Total reservations you can make for the following badge holders:    1
Reservations remaining for the following badge holders:    0

I haven't made any reservations and the "Go to Housing Portal" button is active...I can use it.  Does the above mean that I'm not able to make a reservation?

For full background, a friend of mine did make reservations (Airport area), and I figured I'd check back periodically to see if something Downtown opens up.  He added my email as an additional occupant of the room. Did that somehow eat up my reservation slot?

Thanks in advance!

Does it show a confirmation code or access code? If it shows an access code, you should still be able to make a reservation.

What is the process of getting a room reservation from another attendee? I have someone whom has an extra downtown room that they are going to trade to me, but I have no idea how to go about switching card info and the like in order to get the room in my name. Any direction on how to accomplish this would be very helpful.

Basically, you find the person, and you both call Q rooms.  You call first and tell them you are transferring to X person and that they will call shortly, then the other person calls and adds their credit card number.
